Children wearing bombs

I've seen them on the T.V.

Children wearing bombs

To kill the infidel

To right the ancient wrongs

I've seen the victims’ faces

They could be you and me

I wonder if they realise

That all the world can see

I've heard all their excuses

Their reasons for excess

Yet wonder still why death

Is their measure of success?

Why do books of love,

Inspire so much hate?

And why are starving children,

Abandoned to their fate?

Is it God that drives the violence?

Do prophets feed the hate?

Or is it men that spread the cancer

And have we left it all too late?

Auschwitz

Absent from the trains
Not there on my arrival
Absent from the chambers
When I called upon the bible

Absent from the ovens
Where burning flesh did smell
Where God could make no heaven
But man did make a hell

Absent from the Chimneys

That took me to the Sky
And floating on the breeze
I saw no God on high

So here I lie at Auschwitz
My ashes bless the ground
60 years at Auschwitz
And still no God I’ve found

To Mali they come
To spread their disease

To the cradle of mankind they come
To steal the baby

To a place of song and dance they come
To turn off the music

To a continent in darkness they come
To dim the lights

To the illiterate they come
To take the books 

To a land in poverty they come
To make it poorer

To women without power they come
To make them powerless 

To children who don’t get old they come
To take away their youth 

To Mali they come
To spread their disease

Since April 2012, Islamic extremists associated with Al- Qaeda controlled much of Northern Mali. They have implemented an extreme form of Sharia law similar to that imposed by the Taliban of Afghanistan. Ancient religious sites have been desecrated and destroyed, men and women persecuted and murdered. The international community initially did little to challenge this sickening development. Thankfully French and African troops are now working to free northern Mali.
